A couple of weeks ago, the CEO of GE was fired. I could say “let go,” but he was fired. Let’s just call it as it is.
He served as CEO for only a little over one year. Stunning speed by corporate standards.
Do I hear you asking “what’s that got to do with me,” or “so what?” Both valid questions.
The reason he was fired…the real reason…might be something you’re doing, too.
And you can fix it before you fire yourself.
His problem and your issue might be you’re not moving fast enough.
GE has a mountain of problems. They are a storied company on Wall Street with origins going back to Thomas Edison. But they just aren’t the company they once were, and the Board of Directors felt John Flannery wasn’t moving fast enough to solve their issues.
The speed with which you, too, make and execute decisions shortens or lengthens when you’ll reach your goal.
What I’ve seen and personally experienced, both in corporate America and in my own business, clearly demonstrates the faster you make a decision the better your business.
Even if the decision turns out to be wrong.
Making decisions…rather than mulling over or tabling the choice for when you have mounds of evidence…keeps a business in motion. As Sir Isaac Newton told us “an object in motion stays in motion.”
BTW…the rest of his theory, the First Law of Motion, states “an object at rest stays at rest.”
His law of motion is also called the Law of Inertia.
What decision have you been sitting on?
You’ve got plenty of input. Perhaps your accounting records, or website analytics or bank account hand you what you require to decide.
Maybe you’ve done the Pro-and-Con list (never a good sign and no real answers ever reveals itself, does it).
And still you sit.
Our advice: Do it.
Make the decision.
You’ll detect in a few months or so if the decision crushed it, moved you forward at least a step, or skidded off the runway.
Making the decision has kept you and your business in motion no matter the outcome.
Remember…a business in motion moves towards its goal quicker than one that’s inert.
