Happy New Year! Bring out the noise makers and confetti.

Before you fire off an e-mail to warn us that our support team has goofed up big time and published something either way too late or way too early, let me explain.

Even though it’s been many (ok, many, many,) years since I was in school, my heart still kind of operates on the academic calendar.

Maybe yours does, too.

If you have children at home, this is natural, but even long after they have moved out and moved on, there is something that just feels right about the start of a new school year being the time for new starts in general.

It’s time to wipe the slate clean…literally and figuratively.

Here are a five tips for getting that fresh start, new year feeling for your business.

Spruce things up – replenish supplies, give things an extra deep cleaning, maybe even get a new outfit. Give your social media and online presence a fresh, clean look. Looking fresh will help you to feel fresh.

Declutter –get rid of those things that are no longer serving you, whether that is lingering tasks that keep falling to the bottom of the list, changes that you have postponed, or files that need to be purged or sent to storage. Creating space creates energy and makes room for positive new things to enter your world.

Confirm your progress – In school, the first few weeks are spent making sure you have a strong mastery of last year’s learning to set a firm foundation for the next year’s work. In your business, look at the goals you set for this year. Are you on target to meet or achieve them? What do you still need to master before moving into new challenges?

Make new friends – This is a great time to expand your networks and connect with possible partners so that you are ready to work together on new projects as they arise. The time is also right for reconnecting with friends and colleagues with whom you might have lost touch, either over the summer or over the years.

Pick up the pace – Most of us have been in vacation mode at least part of the summer. We’ve relaxed our routines, taken things slower, given ourselves permission to be a little less disciplined. Get yourself back into the solid routines that support you in keeping things moving forward. This will carry you through the next quarter so that you start 2022 strong.

Do you remember that thrill of excitement that came with starting a new school year? Recapture that feeling and then…

Go forth and do great things,

Martha & Chris
