Close the Gaps
When was the last time you took a good look at the gaps in your business?
As a business owner, you probably get lots of advice about where to focus your attention. Focus on the goal, focus on the trends, focus on the competition.
All of that is important for sure, but in this last quarter of the year, we’re suggesting that you focus on closing the gaps in your business…on doing specific things to bring you closer to where you want to be.
Here are five critical gaps to close before the new year starts:
Gaps in your leadership – Are there areas where your leadership could use some tuning up? Perhaps you are not clearly communicating the vision for your business. Maybe you could be doing more to help your employees rise to their full potential. Now is the time to make sure that everyone is on board to start strong in 2022.
Gaps in your team – Do you have all the right people with all the right skills to bring success to your business? If not, take time to determine whether you need to add people, train existing staff, or shift responsibilities to make things work more smoothly.
Gaps in your network – Businesses succeed when the right relationships and resources are in place. Do you have connections with the right referral sources, vendors, and possible joint venture partners? If not, who can you build a relationship with in the next three months that will bear fruit in the coming year?
Gaps in your systems – Are all the pieces of your business working together like a well-oiled machine or are there places where work slows down or gets stuck? Maybe there are processes and procedures that need to be documented so that they can be followed when staff members are away or when there is turnover. If you are planning on selling your business in the next few years, having clear systems in place is essential to attract the right buyer.
Gaps in your customer connection – Are you consistently attracting the right customers in the right numbers to keep your business thriving? If not, it’s time to look at where you might be missing connections. Perhaps your marketing is missing the mark, or maybe your customer experience is not positive enough to encourage repeat business. Maybe it’s time to make adjustments in some of your products or services to meet the changing needs of your customers. Take steps now to be certain that your customer connection will be strong and vibrant for the new year.
As you are winding up 2021, do a thorough analysis of the gaps that are keeping you from being as successful as you could be. Closing those gaps now will position you for a great 2022.
