Keep Your Eye on the Prize
What’s the most important thing on your radar screen right now?
I know – you don’t have the luxury of having only one thing on that radar at any given time. The reality of life as a small business owner is that there are always lots of plates spinning or pots simmering.
But, here’s the thing…
You’ve got to keep your eye on the prize!
Some people will say that the prize is your big WHY and some may tell you it’s the bottom line, but here’s the real prize
The customer is ALWAYS the most important thing on your radar screen, because without customers, you have no business!
It can be really easy to get caught up in creating programs, networking, and all of the myriad things that are part of the small business world. But the bottom line is that doing all of those things perfectly doesn’t matter if you don’t have a steady stream of customers who want what you offer and who think that your business is the best place to get it.
To keep those customers coming in the door, you have to have constant and consistent focus on
- Who your ideal customer is
- What your ideal customer wants and needs (even if they can’t tell you)
- When is the right time to make your offer
- Where to find your customers and
- Why your customers should choose you.
Those first four things are individual and unique to your business, but the last one—WHY your customers should choose you – is the same for every business, no matter how big or small and no matter what it is your offer.
Why your customer should choose you is because you meet their needs better than anyone else ever has. It’s that simple.
Gearing up for that 4th quarter sprint to the end of the year, keep your eye on the prize – The Customer.
Go forth and do great things,
Martha & Chris
P.S. We believe so strongly that the customer is the ultimate prize that we wrote a book called Customers Are The Answer To Everything. You can get it here
