Don’t you just love celebrations? Me, too.

It’s always such fun to focus on something positive, to mark an occasion or honor someone special.

We are headed into the holiday weekend leading up to July 4, but before the picnics and fireworks of Independence Day, there is something else to celebrate. Tomorrow, June 30th, is National Social Media Day.

It’s not an exaggeration to say that social media has changed the face of business in our world, particularly since the start of the pandemic in 2020.

A Harris Poll conducted for Sprout Social Media in 2021 showed that:

  • 55% of consumers learn about new brands on social media
  • 68% of consumers agree that social media enables them to interact with businesses
  • 43% of consumers increase their social media use from 2020 to 2021 to discover new products
  • 78% of consumers are willing to buy from a company after having a positive experience with them on social media
  • 80% of business executives think it’s important to invest additional resources into social media marketing.

Celebrate National Social Media Day

Follow these 7 tips to maximize your social media presence:

  • Choose the right platform – Know where your ideal audience spends the most time on social media and concentrate your efforts in that arena. Choose a platform with a style and tone that fits your business.
  • Fill out all areas of your profile completely – This is valuable “real estate” that helps to create trust and credibility.
  • Catch their eye – Make sure your social media pages and posts have eye-catching images. Pictures capture attention much more quickly than words.
  • Optimize your profile – Use the same image across your profiles, so your audience recognizes your pages. Select keywords that will resonate with your audience and use them in your bio and description areas.
  • Include links to your online presence – This includes your website, landing page, places where you are recognized or highlighted and your other social profiles. Be sure to test the links to ensure they work. Leverage the power of association using appropriate hashtags.
  • Focus on offering value to your audience – Follow the 80/20 rule where 80% of your posts are informational, education or entertaining and only 20% are promotional or sales-oriented.
  • Engage actively with your audience – Don’t just post and run. Use questions, polls or other engagement strategies and respond to the comments you receive. Remember that not everyone will see your post at the same time, so be sure to go back often to check for new opportunities to connect.

Celebrate Social Media Day tomorrow – no cake or party hats required! Just make the most of this powerful tool to connect with your ideal audience…then raise a glass to your success.

Blessings,

Chris
