Many of us get caught up in the fires and bright, shiny objects that assault our business. We spend less time than we should on the things that really move our business forward, and doing them quickly.
Don’t you just hate that?
I stumbled on a wonderful role model for us. Someone who built a technique for working swiftly and effectively.
Our role model is Gioachino Rossini.
Who????? The guy who wrote the opera, The Barber of Seville. The guy who didn’t like to work hard, yet created 39 operas, sacred music, songs, chamber music and more.
Rossini wrote the opera in 13 days! And it’s obviously not a fly-by-night creation. It is performed hundreds of times worldwide every year.
He was prolific and swift in his output. He hated strenuous exertion, and yet was abundant in his production.
Just the role model we’re looking for.
One of his tricks for being so purposely productive without breaking a sweat might surprise you.
He plagiarized.
Himself.
He repurposed sections of prior work, recycling passages from earlier works for use in new compositions.
We can…and should…do the same thing.
- You have a speech you deliver frequently. Turn it into a book.
- You wrote the book. Make it a workshop.
- Take the workshop and develop coaching around it.
One piece of effort leads to three new offerings.
How can you maximize your efforts by building new products and services on what you are already doing?
I’m betting (I bet on you frequently) you already have a deliverable core to your business and your customers’ needs. Now let’s turn it into a variety of new offerings by plagiarizing…repurposing … sections from your original work.
