He started the game as a bench player. He ended it as the MVP of the entire tournament.
This is a story about patience, perseverance and determination. And while he isn’t in an industry either you or I will ever be in, his story offers us a real role model.
This is the story of Donte DiVincenzo.
Donte was the sixth man on the Villanova University college basketball team this past year. He got into games, yet he wasn’t a starter.
He came to the school expecting to be a starter right away. He certainly had the credentials. But he broke his foot and sat out a year. He came back and had a hard time cracking the line-up. He started only 11 of his 84 Villanova games.
When he did start, it was in place of an injured starter. And while he was a spectacular athlete, his lapses on the court often made him a liability.
Yet, Donte became the MVP of the collegiate basketball Final Four, the pinnacle of college basketball.
Donte had some big dreams. Yet, things weren’t working how as he envisioned.
How do you go from Big Dreams to bench player and liability, to the MVP?
How do you go from Big Dreams to missteps to happy Rock Star?
Just like Donte did it.
With a coach.
Now, I’m not talking about his basketball coach. Donte sought out the help of a credentialed personal coach.
His coach worked on clearing his head to gain focus. The coach guided him to understand when he could catch his breath and when he needed to push hard. The coach helped him cope with criticisms.
You might feel the same way at times. You have big dreams. You’re a starter. But unexpected turns of fate put you on the bench. You hit a low point, just like Donte.
No one reaches their pinnacle by themselves. The people you admire most reached their peak with the help of a coach. The business people you look to as a role model achieved their success with the help of a coach.
August is Happiness Happens Month.
How happy would you be to reach your Big Dream?
When your business is easier, simpler and more profitable.
When you have focus, you know when you can catch your breath and when you get to push hard, when you know how to handle criticisms.
If you see your Happiness – if you know your end goal – go get yourself a Coach. You’ll reach your Happiness that much sooner.
Go forth and do great things…happily,

Martha Hanlon & Chris Williams
P.S. Least you wonder or worry about Donte, rest assured he’s doing just fine. He was the 17th pick in this year’s NBA draft. His Happiness Happened.
