I’ve been at a conference these past few days with Bob Proctor as one of the featured speakers. I’ve seen Bob a few times, and you probably have, too.
While he didn’t have anything really new to add that he hasn’t said before, he brought up—again—a couple of things that really struck a chord for me this time, and maybe you, too.
Most of us don’t get what we want. We get what we think we can get.
Meaning, to me, our story limits us.
Now let’s apply this to your customers. If you find out what they really, really want, you’re still off base because they actually edit, or limit, their reach. They don’t truly believe they can attain what they want. But, of course, they don’t tell you all of this. If only…
You know what this conversation sounds like. “Oh, I could never do that.” “Well, you can do it because you’re you. “I want x, but…”
Let’s deal with this. Our job becomes one of inspiration, to inspire them to turn their want into a goal. And for this goal to be reached they must change some paradigm–some pattern–that they’ve been living with and buying into.
As you develop your marketing and the top of your product funnel, you must recognize and bake in this disconnect between their words (want) and actions (belief).
And whoa, not so fast there, Sparky. Before we put away this conversation and go on our merry way, let’s admit that this applies to you, too, my friend.
You do this, too—pulling back on your revenue target, shortchanging your belief in your product or service, believing you can’t sell, or call people or do a blog or make Facebook work or (insert your limiting belief here).
Currently, our assistant is doing a survey into our database to understand what you want, and here’s what you’ve been saying most frequently, “If they can show me how to grow my business, get more customers, make more money, that’s what I want.”
Well, guess what, we can do that! But are you ready to get what you want or are you limiting yourself to what you think you can get?
Think about it.
Then let’s decide what your goal really is and get working on it. Ready?
Go forth and do great things,
Martha and Chris
P.S. Thanks, Bob!
